Help and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Searching for events
What's the difference between categories and tags?
Categories are broad topics that are part of the site's structure, and don't change very often. Because they're listing on search and submission forms, there can't be too many of them or the forms would get unwieldy. People submitting events can only pick from existing categories.
Tags are free-form text entries that anyone submitting an event can add to their listing. They can be much narrower and specific. So, for example, while this site has a category for holidays, there aren't categories for individual holidays. However, anyone can add tags for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, Memorial-Day and so on.
Do you offer RSS feeds?
Not yet, although I hope to someday. For now, though, you can bookmark URLs for categories, such as www.FraminghamEvents.com/show/category/music for upcoming Music events, or www.FraminghamEvents.com/show/age/kids for listings best for children.
Why did nothing happen when I clicked on see more categories?
Please see the answer below in the "Submitting events" section.

Why do I need to be logged in to submit an event?
Did you know that more than 95% of Internet e-mail traffic is now spam? For anyone running a Web site, spam is such a problem that it's no longer possible to have a wide-open site where people can leave comments unless you've got some kind of anti-spam filter. Even then, for a site like this, I find it more effective to require registration. The good news is, registration is simple, fast and free.
I registered before but forget my password, can you help?
No, sorry, the system is not set up technically to retrieve passwords either automatically or manually. Your best bet is to register again with another user name. And please try to remember your password! I find that the free, open-source program Password Safe is a great place to securely store all your passwords. They're encrypted on your hard drive, and you just need to remember one password to access all the others. Or, you can try the APC biometric mouse, which stores all your passwords securely, and you access them via biometric fingerprint scanning.
I'm on the "submit an event" page. Why did nothing happen when I clicked the link to see more categories?
Probably because that requires Javascript, and you don't have Javascript enabled in your browser. Try enabling Javascript.

Can I submit one of my photos to be a featured photo on your home page?
I'd be happy to take a look! However, I ask that you send me a link to the photo on the Web and NOT the photo file itself. It doesn't have to be in Framingham specifically, but it should be from the area. Send it to info at framingham events dot com.
