More about this event:

Researchers in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Rhode Island (URI) have made great progress in their efforts to develop an effective biological control of the destructive, bright red lily leaf beetle.

They have isolated a parasitic wasp species that selectively attacks the lily leaf beetle, released a number of populations of this wasp at various locations in New England, and would be most grateful if you can help by gathering data in your area for their project.

Lisa will present a review of URI’s research to date, describe the lily leaf beetle and the parasitic wasps (biological control agents), and explain how the wasp will help control the pest. She will also outline where in New England researchers have released populations of these parasitic wasps and explain how homeowners with lilies can help them map the distribution of these biological control agents.

It may soon be safe to plant those beautiful Asiatic and native lilies in your garden again.
